A selection of images from a larger body of work where I first began exploring the concept of place. I consider how my connection to a particular place can have such a profound effect on my mood and attitude. I contrast the loneliness of being in empty hotel rooms against the solitude experienced visiting unoccupied beaches.
Lonely, at times, while traveling for work as a freelance script supervisor, I visually explore the emptiness of unfamiliar hotel rooms and hallways, realizing how place reflects the internal. Once back home, I make early morning trips to the beach, though often as void as hotels, I am at peace due to a sense of familiarity – always the sound of the waves, the view of the horizon, the smell of the ocean.
